The Attack Helicopter Association (AHA) is a dynamic organization of active duty and reserve component servicemembers, veterans and retirees who focus on the legacy and future of rotary-wing attack aviation. It began as a gathering of Vietnam era attack pilots who trained at Cobra Hall on Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, and grew to encompass a much broader membership.
The Association welcomes members from across the attack helicopter community: pilots, crew members, maintainers, and other support personnel who have worked with attack designed helicopters (AH-1, AH-6, and AH-64 attack helicopters, MH-60 DAP, or Vietnam era ACH-47 and UH-1gunships).
Anyone interested in attack aviation – enthusiasts, historians, modelers, friends, family – anybody.
The attack helicopter community represents one of the most unique and demanding professions in military aviation. From the early gunship experiments in Vietnam to today’s advanced platforms, attack helicopter crews have shaped modern warfare.
However, unlike other aviation communities, the collective history and shared identity of attack helicopter pilots, crew members, maintainers, and support personnel are not formally unified under a single organization.
The Attack Helicopter Association (AHA) fills this gap by serving as the central organization dedicated to preserving the heritage of the gunship community across all services.
Membership Allows Individuals to Help
By joining, members become custodians of a legacy built through decades of service and sacrifice.
Attack helicopter professionals are spread across multiple military services, units, and generations. While many veterans remain connected to their former units, there has historically been no organization dedicated specifically to uniting the broader attack helicopter community.
The Attack Helicopter Association provides that common home.
The Association Connects
Through this network, members gain access to a community that understands the unique experiences, challenges, and culture of attack helicopter operations.
Those who have served in attack helicopter units share a bond formed through demanding missions, operational risk, and intense teamwork.
The Attack Helicopter Association exists to reinforce and maintain that bond long after service members leave active duty.
Membership Provides Opportunities
For many members, the association becomes a continuation of the camaraderie experienced during service.
